Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Evaluation

When a Veteran is referred to WRIISC clinical services, they may be scheduled for a WRIISC comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluation. These evaluations are second opinion consultations that help guide ongoing care at the Veteran’s local medical facility.
A WRIISC comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluation may help combat-deployed Veterans who have:
- Unexplained symptoms for more than six months and have visited both primary care and specialty care doctors but still have questions.
- Ongoing health symptoms that have not gotten better despite appropriate tests and treatments.
- Concerns about exposure to harmful substances during military service.
WRIISC Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Evaluations include:
- Comprehensive medical evaluations for post-deployment health issues
- Assessments of military occupational and environmental exposures
- Neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological evaluations
- Advanced diagnostic tests when needed
- Health education about post-deployment concerns
- Integrative health and wellness tools and treatment recommendations
Veterans receive a summary of key findings in easy-to-understand language after each WRIISC comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluation. This information is also shared with the Veteran’s referring doctor and recorded in the VA system by linking the evaluation results to the WRIISC Inter-Facility Consult (IFC). Most evaluations are done through virtual health, as WRIISC sees Veterans from VA centers across the country. In person evaluations at specific WRIISC sites may be recommended on a case-by-case basis.
